Daylight Saving Time Alarm Safety
When you change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time, check your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms! Detectors are on duty 24/7 to help provide you and your family with an early warning to a fire or carbon monoxide emergency in your home. However, did you know alarms don't last forever? It's important to regularly test them to help ensure they are working properly and continuing to provide reliable protection. Follow our Daylight Saving Time safety tips below to check your smoke and CO detectors:
Regularly test your alarms using the test button on the front of the detector to ensure they are working properly. See the product manual for information on how and when to test your alarms.
Change the alarm's batteries every 6 months or during Daylight Saving Time – this includes backup batteries in hardwired detectors.
Alarms need to be replaced at least every 10 years. Check the manufacture date on the back of your detectors and replace them if they are 10 years old or older.
If it’s time to replace an outdated smoke or carbon monoxide alarm or you need to add additional detectors throughout your home, upgrade to 10-year sealed battery alarms. These detectors eliminate battery replacements and low-battery chirps for the life of the alarm. Installation is easy and doesn’t require rewiring. First Alert offers 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms, portable carbon monoxide alarms detectors and 2-in-1 combination smoke and CO alarms for convenient and hassle-free protection.
Use Daylight Saving Time as a reminder to check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are properly working to help protect what matters most. Complete these alarm safety tips and shop First Alert if it's time to replace or add additional detectors in your home.
